You Have No Claim on Me

Original English lyrics · Production directions omitted for reading.

I know that voice. I know those chains. But I belong to Jesus now. The road grows narrow past the shore, I hear a footstep close behind. A voice that used to rule my days Starts dragging through my mind. It names the things I wish undone, It knows the places where I fell. Then whispers, “You’re still one of mine. I know your story far too well.” My heart beats hard; I turn around. I feel the earth beneath my feet. Jesus, You are here with me. I stand in what You did for me. You have no claim on me! Jesus has set me free! Your accusations meet the cross— He gave His life for me. I stand beneath His mighty name, Your chains won’t hold me anymore. You have no claim on me! I’m walking with the Lord. You offer me familiar roads, The comfort of a closing door. You say the freedom won’t endure, That I’ll come crawling back once more. But Christ lives in this beating heart, His love has met my deepest shame. I hear you calling from behind— I keep on walking in His name. I give myself to God again, My voice grows steady as I speak. Jesus, You are Lord of my life. Your strength sustains me when I’m weak. You have no claim on me! Jesus has set me free! Your accusations meet the cross— He gave His life for me. I stand beneath His mighty name, Your chains won’t hold me anymore. You have no claim on me! I’m walking with the Lord. I submit to God. I resist your lies. I lift my head And meet His eyes. My life is His. My hope is sure. Jesus, You are Lord— Today and evermore. The voice falls silent. The road lies clear. I take another step— My Lord is here. You have no claim on me! Jesus has set me free! Your accusations meet the cross— He gave His life for me. I stand beneath His mighty name, Your chains won’t hold me anymore. You have no claim on me! I’m walking with the Lord. I know that voice. I leave it behind. Jesus goes before me. His life is mine.
